Near Balmoral Castle, summer home to the Royal Family.
Whisky trails, hillwalking, cycling, golf and much more......

Surrounded by glorious countryside Ballater is a picturesque Victorian village in the heart of Royal Deeside located in the Cairngorms National Park.

Ballater is the nearest town to Balmoral Castle, one of the holiday homes to the Royal Family.  Nearby Royal Lochnagar Distillery produces one of Scotland’s most exclusive whiskies.

In summer of 2018 the beautifully restored Victorian Railway Station reopened as a visitor centre.  The stunning interior is home to a wonderful cafe and bistro,  Carriages Ballater, owned by the Prince Charles Trust.

A few miles to the south lies Loch Muick and the legendary mountain of ‘dark Lochnagar’ made famous by Lord Byron and Prince Charles who wrote a children’s book about ‘The Old Man of Lochnagar’. Red deer, golden eagles and grouse can be easily spotted on the eight mile footpath around the loch.

Ballater Golf Club boasts a fabulous 18-hole golf course situated in one of the most beautiful parts of Upper Deeside surrounded by glorious hills and wonderful views.  The first tee is a mere 2 minute walk from Granville House.
